Lukas Repa
Senior Policy Officer for innovationDG CNECTDr. Lukas Repa is a lawyer by training and graduate from the University of Vienna, Austria (Mag.iur and Dr.iur) and the College of Europe in Bruges (LL.M). After internships in Istanbul and New York, Lukas clerked at the Tribunal of First Instance of the ECJ in Luxembourg and the Austrian Administrative Supreme Court. He qualified as attorney at law at the bar of Vienna in 2003. In the same year, he joined the European Commission as civil servant. Lukas has a profound background in finance after working almost ten years in DG COMP’s Directorate D for financial services in payments, retail banking, insurance and capital markets. Lukas also worked as project manager in the Commission’s DG ENER and set up the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2013. He then worked on policy projects related to the internal market rules for electricity and gas. From 2017 to 2018, Lukas conducted research as fellow of the UC Berkeley, USA, on FinTech including on AI, cloud computing and blockchain technology. Since December 2018, Lukas holds a position as senior policy officer for innovation in DG CNECT Unit F3 where his area of expertise is distributed ledger technologies and decentralised data ecosystems. Lukas set up the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA) and works on various legislative files including on crypto assets.
